William is second in line for the throne and will be the fifth King William. A royal favourite.
Fun fact: Prince Harry’s name is actually Henry. It’s also the name of the most notorious King, Henry VIII. He was known for having six wives.
THE FAVOURITE GIRLS NAME
Already being Princess Charlotte’s middle name and the name of the current Queen. (Contrary to those who refer to her as Lizzie…)
There’s nothing plain about these royal Jane’s. Jane Seymour (one of King HENRY VIII’s wives) and Lady Jane Grey – famous for being the shortest reigning monarch, just nine days.
Up until 2015, Queen Victoria held the record for the longest reigning monarch.
Kate Middleton is not the first Catherine within the Royal Family.
PRINCE LOUIS ARTHUR CHARLES
Louis was the 10th top choice amongst bookmakers, already being Prince William and Prince George’s middle name. Although not confirmed, Louis may be named after Prince Charles’ great uncle. Louis Mountbatten served in the Royal Navy during the First and Second World Wars. The name means “famous warrior.”
Arthur is again Prince William’s middle name, as is Prince Charles. It was also the middle name of King George VI, the Queen’s father. The Italian name means “noble and courageous.”
Charles is an obvious reference to the new Prince’s grandfather, Prince Charles. This is not the first time Kate and William have named their children after their grandparents, Princess Charlotte’s middle name is Diana after all.
PRINCESS CHARLOTTE ELIZABETH DIANA
Charlotte was chosen for the Princess simply because Will and Kate liked the name. It is also believed that William and Kate may have chosen Charlotte to reference Prince Charles, Will’s father.
Princess Charlotte’s middle name comes from her great grandmother and the current monarch, Queen Elizabeth.
The Princess’ third name honours Prince William’s late mother, the much loved Princess Diana.
PRINCE GEORGE ALEXANDER LOUIS
Prince George is the royal family’s seventh King George. The Queen’s father, King George VI, was the last George to hold the crown.
Alexander pays tribute to Queen Elizabeth’s middle name, Alexandra – which is also one of Kate’s favourite names.
Prince George now shares his middle name with his younger brother, Prince Louis.
